That's about four seconds slower than its HP Envy 7855 sibling, and 12 seconds slower than the Canon TS9120 and the Brother MFC-J775DW. It printed our two highly detailed and colorful 4-by-6-inch snapshots at a rate of 44 seconds each. Obviously, with a name like "Envy Photo," we're concerned with not only how well the Envy 7155 prints photos (which we discuss below), but also how fast. It is, however, slower than the Canon TS9120 by 0.9ppm, as well as the HP Envy 7855 and Brother MFC-J775DW by 0.8ppm-making it the slowest in this bunch.
While not by much, the Envy 7155 came in just under the Canon TS9120 by 0.5ppm. When printing our 12-page Microsoft Word monochrome text document, it churned at the rate of 11.7ppm, which is 1.3ppm slower than its rating and 2.3ppm slower than the Envy 7855.

I tested the Envy 7155 over USB from a standard Intel Core i5-equipped testbed PC running Windows 10 Professional. Fast EnoughĪt 14 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome pages, HP rates Envy 7155 at 2ppm slower than the Envy 7855 and 1ppm slower than the Envy 6255. Given that this machine sells for less than $150 and is designed primarily to print snapshots first and then do everything else-print document pages, make copies, scan documents, and so on-its feature set is fairly robust. Printing from SD cards and cloud sites, making copies, scanning to a network drive, and several other walkup tasks are performed from the Envy 7155's 2.7-inch capacitive touch display panel, which, aside from a few buttons, such as Home, Back, and Wi-Fi, comprises the entire control panel. You can also print photos and other content directly from SD cards that slip into a slot beneath a small cover located on the left-front side of the Envy 7155's chassis. Third-party connectivity apps include Apple AirPrint and Mopria, and HP throws in its ePrint utility for printing emails and attachments. The Brother MFC-J775DW's monthly duty cycle is 2,500 sheets.Ĭonnectivity features include dual-band Wi-Fi, connecting directly to your PC via USB, and Wireless Direct, which is HP's equivalent to Wi-Fi Direct, a peer-to-peer networking protocol for connecting your mobile devices to the printer without either it or them being connected to a router. Canon no longer publishes duty cycles on its consumer-grade machines those specs for the aforementioned Canon TS9120 are thus unavailable. The 7155's maximum monthly duty cycle is 1,000 pages, with up to 300 to 400 pages monthly recommended, as is the 7855's and 6255's. Like the Envy 7855 and the HP Envy Photo 6255 All-in-One Printer, the 7155 supports up to 140 sheets of paper, comprising 125 sheets of standard paper in the main input tray, and another 15 sheets of snapshot-size premium photo paper in a little tray on top of that. To get an ADF from an Epson photo-centric AIO, you'll have to reach beyond the Expression Premium XP-640 Small-in-One to the XP-830 Small-in-One.

None of the Canon Pixma TS series photo printers, including the TS9120, have one, and to get an ADF from an HP Envy Photo model, you'll have to step up to the Envy 7855.
But then again, ADFs aren't common on consumer-grade photo printers like this. With its gunmetal-gray chassis and matte-black scanner lid, the two-tone Envy 7155 looks like the HP Envy 7855 minus the automatic document feeder (ADF) for sending multipage documents to the scanner. With a subscription to HP's Instant Ink program, however, the Envy 7155 is cheaper to use than the Canon TS9120, making it a sensible alternative for families and home-based offices on budgets. In direct competition with the Editors' Choice Canon Pixma TS9120 Wireless Inkjet All-in-One, the Envy 7155 lacks a few features, and it doesn't print quite as well, especially photos. A step below the HP Envy Photo 7855-the flagship model in the photo-centric HP Envy all-in-one (AIO) line-the HP Envy Photo 7155 All-in-One Printer ($149.99) prints well overall, and it's fast enough to keep up in this relatively slow genre of home-based and small office printers.
